October is now underway and we are soaking up all the beautiful fall leaves as they change colors, crisp mornings, sweaters, boots, and scarves. It’s one of our favorite times of the year and in the same way we transition our wardrobes for the changing seasons, we can also think about doing the same for our homes.

Today we wanted to give you our 10 Tips on how to cozy up your home for Fall.

1. Adding layers and textures

Try incorporating heavier knits, sheepskins, faux furs and plaid fabrics into different areas of your home. You can switch out your lighter weight blankets and rugs for heavier, warmer ones to keep you toasty in front of the fire.

2. Blend warm hues with books

A lot of times we don’t think about books as a way to bring warmth into your space but if you take a look around your home, we are sure you’ll find some gems. Think about the books that mean something to you and stack or group them together. Books add so much texture and life to a space, it might be one of our favourite elements to style with.

3. Layer lighting options

As the days become shorter, we are left with darker evenings. There is no better way to create warmth and ambiance than with your lighting. Think about layering your lighting with use of table lamps, sconces, and of course candles.

4. Ready your porch

You don’t need to have a big wraparound porch to get the outside of your home ready for Fall. Any entryway into your house can be dressed up for the season. Add things like large wicker baskets with mum plants in varying colors, pumpkins galore (have you seen they even have pink and green pumpkins now). Throw in beautiful lanterns, a seasonal welcome mat and a wreath for your front door and you will be set.

5. Earthy accents

By adding in earthy-toned accents to your space you will immediately warm up your color palette in your home. Think about things like wood tones by adding cutting boards to your kitchen counter, artwork with warm colors and sculptural pieces like pottery vases.

6. Seasonal scent candles

There’s nothing that quite says Fall like the array of scented candles that are available. Autumn seems to be one the most popular seasons for those warm, rich, spicy scents. Put away or switch out those beachy coconut smells of summer to those of cinnamon and nutmeg. Our pro tip is to opt for non-toxic candles or even diffusing essential oils.

7. Swap out throw pillows

Probably the quickest and easier way you can cozy up your home for fall is by switching out your accent pillows. You can incorporate pillows in soft velvet, faux fur, and beautiful knits to create texture and warmth to your sofa or sectional.

8. Stock your firewood

There really isn’t anything cozier than curling up by the fireplace with a cup of tea and a good book? Whether you have a true wood-burning fireplace or a gas fireplace, creating a place for firewood can really create that fall/winter vibe both inside and outside your home.

9. Cozy reading corners

Playing off Number 8 – curling up with a good book feels like such a nice way to relax during those cooler months and it doesn’t always have to be beside a fire. Think about creating some dedicated spaces within your home where you can sit, read and relax. Incorporate a comfortable chair, footstool, blankets, reading lamp and side table for the perfect reading moment.

10. Seasonal greenery

Adding greenery to any space immediately adds life and movement. We love to combine things like magnolia leaves with their brown underside into our decor either on their own or in the form of a wreath. Things like branches and a beautiful vase can bring the outdoors inside in and provide an amazing impact to your front entryway.
