A DWK Guide to Kids Rooms: All Things Paint
Our Favorite Paint Colors for Kids Rooms revealed!Get the Guide!
Today we’re continuing our Mount Royal tour with a double reveal of two guest bedrooms—but first let’s kick it off with a few tips on how to get your guest bedroom ready for the holidays!
Getting your guest bedroom ready for entertaining is all about freshening up the space and creating a welcoming (and clean) temporary home for your friends and family. Now let’s have some more fun with our Mount Royal client’s guest bedroom reveal!
We nicknamed the guest bedrooms the “Bachelor Bedroom” and the “Bachelorette Bedroom” because they were each other’s twin, and one was slightly masculine and one was slightly feminine.
Both guest bedrooms were clearly not lived in and just needed a little love to spruce them up. Our client wanted us to keep the existing furniture and work with his beautiful rugs. Up for the challenge, we felt that the biggest impact we could provide would be switching out the bedding and ceiling light fixture, and adding a few outstanding pieces of art.
By adding art, switching out the previously busy sheets with simple white sheets and throwing in accent pillows in colours that compliment the art – we’ve livened up the space and but kept it calming. This guest bedroom is now so serene – when you walk by in you want to do a double take to see what else is going on in here.
New towels and flower filled vases are the little details that your guests will remember and appreciate. You don’t need to break the bank at the florists, just pick up a few stems of baby’s breath or sea holly.
The Bachelorette needed not only love but life too. We added three pieces of leafy art above the bed, switched the bedding from dark to white, and took the light fixture from insignificant to exceptional. The darker beside lamps help ground the space, and the accessories and pillows (those striped bolsters!) liven it up. Sometimes the smallest changes have the biggest impact.
In the en-suite, we focused on crisp and clean, so we had a custom, slightly nautical, shower curtain made in a simple navy blue trellis pattern.
Have we succeeded in giving you a little nudge to get your guest bedrooms in order for the holiday season? If you have any other tricks or tips for making your guests feel special, we’d love to hear about it below.
