The halls are being decked, the trees are getting lit and the wish lists are coming in. Holiday shopping can be stressful especially if you wait until the last minute to fit it all in. If you’ve already Christmas-fied your home, why not get your shopping done as well! We’ve put together our annual holiday gift guide if you’re looking for ideas for everyone on your nice list. We added a little twist this year and decided to include gifts that support our local Calgary and surrounding area businesses as well as ways to give back this year.

We’re always looking for gifts that are personal, charming, and functional but keeping in mind how they will look in anyone’s home and these gifts hit the mark.

For Him

Are men hard to shop for or is that just us? Either they already have everything or they’re too picky to find something to level up their latest hobby. We love this Smoked Cocktail Starter kit from Spirits with Smoke. If he’s more of a coffee guy (or maybe he’s both), the YETI Rambler Tumbler is just what he’ll need to keep his coffee warm on the go. We are loving the sleek and masculine look of this Black Electric Toothbrush from Bruush. And everyone can use some self-care, and we are loving this all-natural hair care line from ManDay Grooming.

For Her

There is always a special woman in our life that could use a bit of pampering, a personalized gift, or something for her home. Sometimes you don’t need a really unique gift to find the perfect match for the woman on your list. We think that Make Life Beautiful from Studio McGee would be a great addition to her bedside table book collection. We are loving these Zodiac pendants from Jewelry by Amanda, a semi-custom gift that speaks to their personality. You can never go wrong with pampering the women in your life, so why not give the gift of an eyebrow or eyelash appointment at our fav local spa, Laura’s Brows. Don’t forget about bringing the cozy with this fun crewneck hoodie from The Happiness Collection that shows your Canadian pride.

For the Foodie

Do you have a friend who is an avid cook, a foodie or a newbie in the kitchen? We would argue that you can never have too many tools or cookbooks and one of the hottest kitchen tools this year has to be the Always Pan from Our Place. With so many different color options to choose from you can’t go wrong. If you have someone in your life that is an avid nut milk drinker this Almond Cow milk maker is a must-have for the kitchen that will allow them to make their own nut milk on demand. On the flip side, if you have someone that loves baked goods but not the actual baking part, this genius gift from Lazy Bake gives them the sweets without the mess. And for those that appreciate the local goodness of specialty items, this Superfood Honey Box set would be perfect.

For the Techie

There’s always someone who is obsessed with the latest and greatest in tech. Either a new gadget or home accessory, the techie in your life would probably love the Apple Ipad Air to use for personal or business. Or a sleek and stylish Incase Pro Case to hold their Airpods. The Elago Charging Station is a necessity to keep everything at 100% battery in one place. And if you really wanted to go all out for them, who can say no to the Oculus Go Standalone Virtual Reality Headset?! Virtual reality is the new reality.

Fun Stocking Stuffers

We always love the fun things you can find to add to the mix for stocking stuffers. These unique gift ideas will make the perfect addition to your holiday gift-giving. Nothing says winter like the warm ambiance of candles and the Sweater Weather candle from MilkJar Co. smells amazing. Nothing says Canadiana like Maple Syrup, Friday Sock Co. has put there twist on it and created their Maple Socks, complete with their branded tin. The ’90s have returned with the popular scrunchie back in full-force. Hand-made scrunchies from May and Mae will never go unused. And finally, you can’t go wrong with gifting a toque to those here in the North, and added bonus The Giving Toque from Local Laundry donates a toque to a homeless organization for every one sold! Now that’s giving.

For the Health Enthusiast

The New Year is coming and with that the New Year resolutions. You probably have someone on your list who actually committed to their health resolutions and doesn’t fall off the bandwagon like the rest of us. Starting the day with a loud alarm clock can stress out the body, your health-focused family member would love the Philips Wake-Up Light Alarm Clock to help their body naturally wake up. After a solid workout, nothing feels better than a massage or something to relieve that muscle tension. This Therabody Theragun Pro will give them this treatment from the comfort of their own home. With everyone being on screens and devices the majority of our day, the health enthusiast in your life will appreciate these stylish Selena Blue Light Glasses from Free People. Add to their gym bag the modern-looking and may we add self-cleaning Larq Water Bottle, so they can stay hydrated on the go.

Ways you can give back this year

I know that one of the hardest things during times like this past year is not feeling like you know how to help out. There are plenty of organizations within the Calgary area that could use your support, especially this time of year. We’ve gathered a few places and ways for you to give back.

Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta
This home-building charity was forced to close its ReStores due to COVID-19 and has since moved sales online. ReStores carry new home decor items, appliances and renovation supplies at up to 80 per-cent off regular retail prices, and sales fund Habitat’s initiatives.

Highbanks Society
Highbanks offers affordable housing and a nurturing community where young mother-led families leaving situations of violence, poverty and abuse can learn and grow. Highbanks is seeking monetary donations to support all initiatives and also gift cards for select businesses.

Women in Need Society (WINS)
Monetary donations can be made at its website and cleaning/disinfecting supplies can be dropped at any of its five thrift stores in Calgary.

Order Take-Out from Local Restaurants
A huge number of Calgary restaurants have pivoted to focusing on pick-up and delivery options while their dining rooms are closed, supporting them during this time is so important if we want to dine-in again one day.

Buy Gift Cards from your favorite local businesses
This one is simple: pay now, enjoy later. Get one for yourself or as a gift for someone else. Make sure to check with your fav shops to ensure they are offering gift cards.
